Wallace Monument to get £500k restoration
Stirling Council will pay half a million pounds to allow extensive restoration work at the Wallace Monument to take place.
A recent survey found parts of the structure are in need of crucial repair.
The statue of Wallace will also be removed for around four months, to allow for specialist restoration.
Council leader Scott Farmer says the decision will safeguard the “iconic” site ahead of next year’s 150th anniversary celebrations.
The landmark receives more than 140-thousand visitors every year and is one the city’s most popular attractions.
