Stirling to host marathon championships for second year
Stirling has been named as the host city for Scottish Athletics’ Marathon Championships for a second successive year.
The event- which takes place on 28 April, 2019- allows athletes registered with Scottish Athletics to compete for championship statuses.
Stirling played host the event in 2018, despite the city only launching it’s full and half marathon the year before.
A spokesman for the Great Run Company, who organises the Great Stirling Run, said:
“We’re delighted that the Simplyhealth Great Stirling Run marathon will once again host the Scottish Marathon Championships.
“With Stirling also hosting the 10K championships and the upcoming Simplyhealth Great Stirling XCountry featuring the Scottish Inter District races, this really reinforces Stirling’s position at the heart of Scottish running.
“The marathon course features 26.2 miles of bespoke marathon running with no shuttle buses, laps or out and back sections, and will provide the ultimate challenge to our runners- we’re already looking forward to what should be a thrilling race next April”
A new and improved course was used in 2018 which showcased the scenery and historic landmarks of Stirling and the surrounding areas.
Central AC’s Michael Wright and Alison McGill of Fife AC took the Scottish marathon individual goals in the city earlier this year.
