Redknapp Defends Tottenham's Scott Parker Bid

30 Jul 10 - Sports

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp is adamant that the club did nothing to unsettle West Ham United star Scott Parker.

West Ham chairman David Sullivan accused Spurs of unsettling Parker with a transfer bid and strongly refused any claims they were willing to sell him.

Redknapp has hit out at Sullivan's accusations, reitterating their clean approach for the midfielder: "You can make an offer if you want to. And someone can ring up and make an offer for anybody.

"I'm sure the chairman (Daniel Levy) must have had some kind of encouragement, otherwise he wouldn't have made an offer. He wouldn't have made a bid if there wasn't a chance they may have wanted to do something."

Redknapp, who previously managed the Hammers for seven years, conceded any deal for Parker may be unlikely: "With Scott Parker, I haven't spoken to him (Levy) yet so I don't know.

"It may be completely dead if West Ham are saying they don't want to sell him."

Former Chelsea and Newcastle midfielder Parker played a key role in West Ham's Premier League survival last season, and Redknapp has been keen to add to his squad after earning a Champions League qualification spot with Tottenham last term.

The Spurs boss has also declared his interest in signing Manchester City's Craig Bellamy. The forward faces a battle for first team football at Roberto Mancini's City, after an influx of big money summer signings - but any transfer is at an early stage.

Redknapp said: "I don't know if they want to sell him (Bellamy). I don't know where the chairman's at with Bellamy, if anywhere."
