Important Changes to Emergency and Minor Injury Services

View Profile

Then the new Minor Injury Unit (MIU) at Stirling Community Hospital is the place to go if you want to be seen quickly. Average waiting times there are less than half those at the Emergency Department at Forth Valley Royal Hospital in Larbert, you don't need to make an appointment and the Unit is open every day from 9.00am to 9.00pm.

The re-vamped facility, which is now located on the ground floor of the former maternity unit, is staffed by emergency nurse practitioners who can prescribe medication and provide treatment for a wide range of minor injuries. These include minor burns and scalds, infected wounds, sprains, cuts and grazes. Staff can also examine and treat minor injuries to the eye, ear, head and neck areas and arrange X-rays for suspected broken bones.

Although based in Stirling, the MIU offers treatment to patients across Forth Valley, including those from Clackmannanshire and Falkirk. Staff can treat and assess adults and children over the age of one year (children under the age of one with a minor injury should be taken direct to the Emergency Department at Forth Valley Royal Hospital in Larbert).

There is no need to make an appointment and patients who attend are seen and treated quickly.

If you need advice or treatment for a minor injury after 9pm then please contact NHS 24 on 08454 24 24 24 who can direct you to a GP out-of-hours centre in Forth Valley, if required.
