Join Falkirk's Waste Watchers Challenge and save you & your family time and money by cutting down on food waste. Everyone registering for the Challenge will be put forward for a monthly prize draw including rewards.
Over £1 billion worth of food is wasted by consumers in Scotland each year.
That's an average of £430 per household, the equivalent of 1 in every 3 shopping bags going straight into the bin.
Falkirk Council households have already produced 37,000 tonnes of waste this year and the cost to the Council of sending this waste to landfill will be over £2.4 million.
If this continues the cost would rise to over £3.7 million by 2014. So waste is literally costing the earth!
Signing up the the Challenge will help you do your bit to conserve the planet's scarce resources, fight climate change and save both you and the Council money.
So what is the Challenge about?
We are asking householders to complete a food waste diary to note how much food they throw away for 1 week before trying to reduce the amount thrown away the following week.
Completing a short survey at the end will help you find out where savings can be made, and how we can work to make it easier for householders to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.
What's in it for me?
When you register for the Challenge we will send you a pack with a Waste Watchers diary including handy waste tips, a spaghetti measure and recipe cards, plus a pair of googly eyes to stick on your bin to get the kids involved.
As thanks for doing the diary and survey, we will send you a goody bag of useful items like shopping list pads, freezer bag clips and recycling fridge magnet.
Everyone registering for the Challenge will be put forward for a monthly prize draw, with rewards such as cookery lessons, 'grow your own' fruit and veg classes, quality eco products, HMV and iTune gift vouchers.
What do I need to do now?
Register by filling in your details on the right hand side of this page (answer the security question - answer is in the text above) and we will send your Waste Watchers Challenge pack. Good luck!
