Council tax to rise in Falkirk

Council tax in Falkirk could rise by 9.5% this April.

Falkirk Council are to set out their budget at the start of March - and are facing a funding gap of £14.5 million this year.

They need to plug a budget gap of nearly £44 million by 2030.

The proposal from council officials is a council tax rise of 9.5% - but this could rise by as much as 12%.

Last year, a hike of 15.61% was approved by the local authority.

Other measures to plug the funding gap include a rise in parking charges, and a 13% increase in fees for brown bin collections.

Falkirk Council will meet on 5th March.
