Falkirk Council workers could refuse to collect bins, under new plans to reduce contamination.
From 11th September, a two-step traffic light system will be introduced by the local authority.
If any incorrect material, such as plastic bags and crisp packets, are found, an amber tag will be placed on their bin.
Heavily contaminated, overweight or unsafe bins including items like hypodermic needles and black bags, will receive a red tag and not be collected.
The local authority says landfill contamination costs them £125,000 per year.
