Petition for Cladhan hotel buffer zone

More than 1500 people have signed a petition calling for a buffer zone around a hotel holding asylum seekers in Falkirk.

Protests have been held outside the Cladhan over the last few months, led by anti-immigration groups.

Falkirk For All say the protests have caused "serious unrest" - and local residents feel unsafe.

A statement on the petition, from Falkirk For All, says:

"We call for the immediate establishment of an Exclusion Zone around the Cladhan Hotel and the adjoining Kemper Avenue. This practical measure, led by Police Scotland, would serve as a vital buffer to mitigate disruption and restore a sense of normalcy for local residents.

As a Falkirk resident, it deeply troubles me to see the tangible impact that the weekly protests are having on those living nearby. Residents in the surrounding tower blocks have voiced numerous complaints about unbearable noise levels, which have become a persistent disruption, encroaching on their basic right to peace and comfort within their own homes.

From children struggling to sleep, to elderly individuals unable to rest due to the constant disturbances, the effects are wide-ranging and harmful. What was once a tranquil neighbourhood has been transformed into an echo chamber of chaos, hindering daily life and diminishing mental well-being. Our residents deserve a peaceful environment, free from unwanted noise and tension they did not choose.

The concerns voiced by those living next to the Cladhan Hotel and along Kemper Avenue should no longer fall on deaf ears. Immediate intervention is needed to safeguard the rights and well-being of Falkirk residents, while also upholding the community spirit that defines our region.

Please help us bring an end to the ongoing distress and obstruction that local residents, including those in the Cladhan, face every week by signing this petition."
