Petition for Grangemouth investment

More than 1500 people have signed a petition, urging the UK Government to speed up investment in Grangemouth.

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has pledged £200m for the area from the National Wealth Fund.

However, trade union Unite say there is "no evidence" of the money being spent in the area.

The petition has been backed by Alloa and Grangemouth MP Brian Leishman.

The letter says:

"Dear Sir Keir Starmer, Prime Minister

We the undersigned write to you to demand that you follow through with the £200m investment pledge for Grangemouth that you made personally on the 23rd of February 2025 in Glasgow.

Over the last 6 months the Grangemouth Refinery has ceased production, after over a century of operation. With its closure, to date hundreds of workers are now out of work with into the thousands more predicted.

As the number of job losses continues to mount– there is still absolutely no evidence of any of the £200m being spent at Grangemouth. Money that you pledged for the revival of Scotland’s industrial cluster.

Working people who rely on the site directly or indirectly are growing impatient. You said you would “stand behind this symbol of Scotland’s industrial brilliance” and that a solution for Grangemouth would “not lack ambition” on your part. To date, there is no evidence that you have done so.

I therefore demand that you treat the Grangemouth crisis with the urgency it needs, a future is still to be secured and demand that you follow through with the £200m investment pledge at pace."
