Report calling for 5% Stirling visitor levy

Stirling Council is to discuss a report tomorrow, calling for a formal public consultation on a visitor levy.

The report is suggesting a levy of 5% is introduced across the area.

The charge would be introduced for visitors spending the night in accommodation across Stirling.

Similar schemes are being considered across Scotland.

Council documents, published when the levy was first suggested earlier this year, show a 1% charge would raise up to £2.3 million a year.

The report says the levy will be introduced across the whole Stirling council area, and won't be restricted to the city centre.

64% of businesses who responded to the initial survey didn't want a levy to be introduced.

Drop-in sessions were held across the Stirling area, inviting people to have their say.
