Loch Katrine is a breathtaking freshwater loch in the heart of the Trossachs, where natural beauty, rich history, and outdoor adventure come together. Surrounded by dramatic mountain scenery and teeming with wildlife, it’s rightly described as ‘The Birthplace of Scottish Tourism’ —made famous by Victorian artists and writers who captured its magic.
Sir Walter Scott’s 1810 poem The Lady of the Lake put Loch Katrine on the map and since the mid 1800s there have been steamships at Loch Katrine, and this year Steamship Sir Walter Scott, the star of the attraction, celebrates her 125th anniversary, having first set sail in 1900.
A charitable trust looks after the Steamship for the nation and there are three further cruise boats. Sailings run through the year and there are two piers, both with cafes and motorhome hookups. Trossachs Pier also has a gift shop, cycle hire, ten eco-accommodation lodges and a scenic tower at the viewpoint that inspired Scott to write his landmark poem.
Set within Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park and the Great Trossachs Forest, Loch Katrine is a paradise for walking, cycling, and wildlife watching. We celebrate the unique history and nature of the loch with immersive experiences.
