Meeting for Coalsnaughton residents

Residents in nearly 100 Coalsnaughton homes are meeting today, after being evacuated due to ground movement.

They'll receive an update from the Mining Remediation Authority, who have confirmed the issue is related to past mining work.

People in 97 properties were forced to leave at short notice in May.

It's understood they could be out of their home for six months while an investigation continues.

In total, 256 residents have been evacuated.

Most have been put up in temporary accommodation.

A statement on the Clackmannanshire Council website reads:

"The specialist investigations undertaken by the Mining Remediation Authority are expected to take some time to complete, and they will continue to make sure that residents are updated with progress as soon as this information becomes available.

The Council is working alongside the Mining Remediation Authority and our local resilience partners in response to this incident.

Expert teams remain on site and will continue working over the coming weeks to gather the information needed as quickly and safely as possible.

To provide reassurance to residents and the wider community, ground monitoring equipment has also been installed. Residents may notice markings on the roads and pavements, which are also being used by the surveyors to monitor ground movement.  

Structural inspections of properties are being carried out, and these reports will be shared with affected residents in the coming weeks. In addition, slope and stability investigations are being undertaken.

The MRA continues to work closely with partners to ensure our investigations are safe and coordinated for the community.
