No more under 18s will be kept in young offenders institutions by September.
The Scottish Government has confirmed the news, after the death of 17-year-old Jonathan Beadle at Polmont earlier this month.
A fatal accident inquiry will now be held after Jonathan's death - and ministers have faced questions over why he was sent to Polmont.
Two other fatal accident inquiries have been held this year after three young people died at the facility.
Ministers say no more under 18s will be sent there by the week beginning 2nd September.
