Two local MPs want Prime Minister to resign

Two local MPs have called for Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer to resign.

Alloa and Grangemouth MP Brian Leishman and Falkirk MP Euan Stainbank have called on Sir Keir Starmer to step down.

He's facing growing calls to resign after last week's election results.

More than 70 MPs now want him to quit.

Falkirk MP Euan Stainbank said:

"Like always, my mind is on Falkirk and not the Palace intrigue, but I believe, as I said 3 months ago, that the Prime Minister should go.

"My message to any replacement is that we need to go further in investing in Grangemouth. 15 months on from the £200 million National Wealth Fund pledge, we've halved the asylum backlog we inherited from the Tories, but we must prioritise more hotels for closure like the Cladden, and we must back the domestic bus manufacturing sector that has seen another 115 workers in our community lose their job due to the SNP government's China-friendly bus subsidies."

Alloa and Grangemouth MP Brian Leishman said:

"'m afraid the Prime Minister's speech did nothing to convince me that he is the right person to lead both the Labour Party and the United Kingdom, and I don't think it will have convinced the people of the country either. Nationalisation of steel is the right thing to do. It really should just be the start. We should be looking at rail, mail, energy, and other vital essential industries that we will need as a society. These should all be on the Labour Party's agenda in government for public ownership."

"I want to see a Labour Prime Minister who will enact real, genuine, true Labour Party values. That's the change that the country voted for in 2024 and the change that we need to provide. Keir Starmer should stand down, resign, and we should have a democratic process within the Labour Party to determine who our new leader will be.

"That new leader, whoever it will be, must govern with real Labour Party values that will benefit millions of people."
