Concerns over e-scooter use

Police say there's been an "increasing" number of incidents involving e-scooters.

It's illegal to ride them on public roads, pavements and cycle lanes.

Officers are asking parents to stop "allowing" children to endanger themselves.

A statement from Police Scotland Forth Valley on social media says:

"We are appealing to parents to stop allowing your children to endanger themselves and others. We have seen a pattern of an increasing number of incidents involving e-scooters, both on their own and when coming into collision with motor vehicles, causing serious harm.

"Although these vehicles can be legally purchased in Scotland,  they are illegal to ride them on public roads, pavements, cycle lanes, or in other public spaces.
The legislation surrounding e-scooter use exists to protect the public and is especially important because younger children don't yet have the judgement, coordination or hazard awareness these devices require.

"This isn't about being strict or unfair - its about understanding the risk."
