"No clear timetable" for Coalsnaughton residents

There is "no clear timescale" on when residents affected by ground movement in Coalsnaughton can return home.

People in 30 homes on Benbuck View were told to leave after reports of several "unsafe structures".

The issue is now in the hands of the Mining Remediation Authority.

Residents are being offered support.

A Clacks Council statement said:

"The Council appreciates this is a worrying time for the residents from this private estate and our officers are at Devonvale Hall again today for residents who need further guidance.

This includes offering support to the residents as they navigate next steps, which will include contacting their insurers.

Citizens Advice Bureau will also be on site from 3pm today (Wednesday).

We are working alongside our partners following this incident and investigations with our partners, including the Mining Remediation Authority, are continuing onsite.

At this early stage, we have no clear timescale on how long this work is going to take."

Clackmannanshire and Dunblane MSP Keith Brown said: "As things currently stand, the Mining Remediation Authority has overall control of the incident, with Clackmannanshire Council continuing to provide support to residents and the wider response effort.

“During discussions, I stressed the importance of clear and consistent communication with residents at what is understandably a very worrying and uncertain time. I also understand that Clackmannanshire Council raised the importance of consistent communications at Incident Management Team meetings about and requested that the Mining Remediation Authority provide a dedicated community liaison officer on-site at Devonvale Hall to support residents and answer questions directly. I am pleased this has now been agreed.

“I also understand that arrangements are being made for a meeting involving the Mining Remediation Authority, Clackmannanshire Council and utility companies, giving residents the opportunity to ask questions directly and receive further information about the ongoing situation.

“I would also urge insurance companies to recognise the distress and uncertainty residents are facing and to ensure that those affected receive the support and assistance they are entitled to as quickly and compassionately as possible.

“I know this continues to be an extremely difficult and unsettling time for everyone affected. My office and I remain available to support any resident who gets in touch, and I will continue to follow developments closely and remain in contact with all agencies involved.”
