Dementia service stopping due to funding cuts

A support group for people with dementia say services are set to stop in Stirling and Clackmannanshire.

Town Break have criticised Stirling Health and Social Care Partnership - blaming a lack of funding.

Stirling Council have been approached for comment.

A statement from the group says:

"The charity has tried repeatedly to engage with Stirling Council but has not yet received any official response.

We have done our best to limit the effect on the people we support, unfortunately, we can no longer sustain our Clackmannanshire and Stirling based services.

Local authorities must dedicate resources for people with dementia, without this, we risk leaving too many people behind to cope on their own"

Mid Scotland and Fife Conservative MSP Alexander Stewart said:

"I am deeply disappointed to learn that Stirling Council has not made a decision on funding for Town Break’s Stirling and Clackmannanshire services.

"This feeling is more so given the truly inspirational work that you do in our communities for people living with myriad forms of dementia, which I was privileged to witness during my visit this year.

I sincerely hope that Stirling Council, which I acknowledge will be under huge financial pressure, is able to do the magnanimous thing and acknowledge your fantastic collective efforts by continuing with funding post-budget, to benefit everyone in the community living with the effects of dementia."
