Forth Valley heart surgery recipient earns a Guinness World Record

Anne Bell, 76, with her Guinness World Record certificate.

Anne Bell is the longest surviving recipient of a single artificial heart valve replacement.

76 year old, Anne Bell underwent pioneering heart surgery almost 50 years ago and has now has set a new Guinness World Record.

She's the longest surviving recipient of a single artificial heart valve replacement.

The operation was carried out in December of 1972, when Anne was only 28 years old at the former Meanskirk Hospital in
Glasgow.

Her husband, Jim, made 4-hour round trips daily, to travel to the hospital to visit his wife while she recovered from the ground breaking operation.

The Banknock resident undergoes annual checks carried out by NHS Forth Valley, Consultant Cardiologist and Clinical Lead for Cardiology, Dr Catherine Labinjoh.

Anne said: "I didn't really think they could do things like that, not at that time. Now, we do. We realise what they can do but 50 years ago you didn't think they could do that."

"I didn't expect to last this long. I just can't thank them enough."
